About the Project
The umbrella crate stall is inspired by informal markets in urban areas. In these markets, through adaptive reuse, people design and create their own trading spaces within the umbrella. This project is built on the existing knowledge of these informal structures and the value they bring to urban spaces. It is a design that builds on this value employing crates as adaptable compartments around the profile of the umbrella creating a unique experience for both traders and customers while improving the outlook of open-air markets in city.
The Umbrella Crate Stall is an innovative market stand. It features a circular arrangement of crates around a central umbrella. With a diameter just under 1.5 meters, the stall is mounted on wheels for easy mobility. The crates, which are repurposed baskets, pivot on a tubular structure, allowing vendors to effectively display their products at multiple angles.
The well-thought-out design is notable for its streamlined manufacturing process, minimizing intermediate steps. It incorporates various elements to optimize manufacturing, using steel, a commonly used material in the industry, to enable easy reproduction.
